🔤 Base64 ↔ Image
Turn an image into Base64 text, or turn Base64/a data URI back into an image file. Your images never leave this browser.
Convert an image file into Base64 text (a data URI) you can paste directly into code or CSS, or go the other way and turn a pasted Base64 string or data URI back into a real image file. The original bytes are encoded as-is, not redrawn, so there's no quality loss.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting to Base64 reduce image quality?
No. It doesn't redraw the image — it just represents the original file's bytes as text, so the quality and colors are exactly the same.
Why is the resulting text bigger than the original file?
Base64 encodes binary data as text, which is structurally about 33% larger than the original. It's meant for embedding an image directly in code — for everyday use, a normal image file is more efficient.
What should I paste into the Base64 → Image tab?
Paste a full data URI starting with "data:image/png;base64," and the type is detected automatically. If you only have the Base64 body without that prefix, choose the image type yourself.
